KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has announced that a temporary toilet at the Sungai Maong (Mile 3) Wet Market is now open for public use, ahead of scheduled renovations to the existing permanent facility.
MPP Chairman Tan Kai said renovation works for the toilet are scheduled to begin on July 21, 2025, and the high-quality temporary facility is now open for use by both the public and market hawkers.
“A two-day usage trial will help ensure the temporary toilet meets the community’s needs before the full renovation work begins,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The upgrade to the permanent toilet is expected to take around six months to complete.
In the meantime, the temporary facility will remain operational to minimise inconvenience for market traders and visitors.
Tan thanked the public and hawkers for their patience and cooperation during the improvement period, noting that the initiative is part of PMC’s commitment to providing cleaner, safer, and more comfortable public amenities.
