The delivery was attended by consultant gynaecologist, Dr Philip Kho, while the baby’s care was overseen by paediatrician, Dr Andy Rahardja, both from BMC.

Hospital staff described the delivery as smooth, with both mother and baby reported to be in good condition.

Meanwhile, at Kuching Specialist Hospital, the first baby of the year at the facility was a baby girl born via spontaneous vaginal delivery (SVD).

The baby was delivered at 1:07 am on January 1, 2026, to mother, Emilia Evyln Christermaller. The newborn weighed 2.30 kilogrammes, and was also reported to be healthy following delivery.

New Year babies are traditionally seen as symbols of hope and new beginnings, marking a meaningful start to the year for families and healthcare providers alike.

Hospitals across Kuching welcomed the arrivals as a positive sign for the year ahead, celebrating the dedication of medical teams who worked through the festive period to ensure safe deliveries.

Both hospitals extended their congratulations to the families and wished the newborns a healthy and joyful future as the first babies welcomed in 2026.
