KUCHING: A newly established non-governmental organisation (NGO), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Komuniti Penyayang Kuching, also known as Compassionate Communities Kuching, is making a heartfelt impact by extending compassionate support and spiritual care to patients and their families.

Officially founded on Jan 16, the NGO aims to foster a culture of compassion in Kuching, particularly for individuals facing life-threatening illnesses, chronic disabilities, ageing-related frailty, dementia, grief, and the burdens of long-term caregiving.

In line with its mission, Compassionate Communities Kuching recently organised a meaningful gift presentation at the paediatric unit of a local hospital, bringing joy and comfort to young patients.

The event took place on Feb 17, with co-founder Jamie Vong, handing over the gifts to hospital director Dr Ngian Hie Ung. The presentation was also witnessed by Sih Hua Tong and other supporters who share the organisation’s vision of a caring community.

Beyond the gift-giving initiative, the NGO also provided 150 portions of dry food to the families of the paediatric patients, offering them additional support during their hospital stay.

This initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to easing the emotional and financial burdens faced by those caring for ill children.

“Our mission is to establish Kuching as a model city of compassion, where care and support are openly encouraged and celebrated. We hope that these small acts of kindness will bring warmth to the children and reinforce the spirit of giving within our community,” said Vong.

Compassionate Communities Kuching continues to advocate for a more empathetic society through acts of kindness, non-judgemental support, and deep listening.

By fostering a network of care, the NGO aspires to inspire hope in young patients and reassure families that they are not alone in their struggles.
