SIBU: Sibu Water Board’s (SWB’s) effort to install new pipes has successfully resolved the water supply issue in about 10 longhouses at Pasai, Bawang Assan.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Chairman, Councilor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said the installation had already been completed, but some adjustments on the tapping point were needed as some longhouses still had low water pressure.
According to Lau, for now, there are still about two longhouses facing low water pressure, and urged these longhouses to be patient as SWB is making an effort to resolve it.
“I know that the water supply is a problem here, but I am glad that SWB has made great efforts to resolve this by installing new pipes.
“And now, as you are celebrating Gawai celebration, you do not have to worry too much about water supply, and I am very happy for you,” he said during his Gawai visit to Rumah Dawi Ringgil at Pasai, Bawang Assan, on Monday.
Lau also said that this was made possible through the cooperation between the longhouse folks, the SUPP team and SWB.
Meanwhile, in his Gawai message, he also reiterated that the ‘ruai’ is a symbol of unity, not just for the longhouses but for all the people in Sarawak.
“Every time we visit your longhouses, you welcome us with your warmth and open arms. This ‘ruai’ is a very meaningful place for all of us.
“Also, Gawai celebration is a bridge to connect with one another and to create closer rapport with one another.
“We can feel a strong spirit of family and togetherness, and we in Sarawak are so lucky to have such a culture,” he said.
Meanwhile, during Gawai celebration on June 1 and June 2, Lau and his team visited a few longhouses and a few community leaders, including Penghulu Dennis, Rumah Peter Tinggom, Cr Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, Temenggong Stanley Gramong, Rumah Francis, Cr Johnny Ganning, Cr Jeksen Chuban, Tuai Rumah Dawi, Tuai Rumah Raymond Sebastian, and Rumah Joseph Abet.
