LONG BEDIAN: Hope Place Kuching recently carried out an impactful outreach mission to Long Bedian, bringing much-needed educational support to SMK Long Bedian and its students.
The total value of the aid contributed during the visit amounted to RM35,000.
The journey to the remote Penan village began on July 4 from Miri, with a convoy organised in collaboration with the Bintulu 4×4 Club, who provided transportation support for the expedition.
Led by the club’s president, Tie Sin Ung, and Batu Niah car team leader, Lai Jun San, the team of more than 40 volunteers travelled approximately 200km in 19 modified 4×4 vehicles, taking five hours to reach the village.
“This mission focused on helping the school prepare its students for their SPM exams. SMK Long Bedian only recently started Form 4 and Form 5 classes, and the need for resources is critical. We are grateful to Ibraco Berhad for sponsoring SPM reference books worth RM6,000 and to Turbo Fitness for donating two television sets for listening classes,” according to a press statement by Hope Place on Thursday (July 10).
The contributions were officially received by Tinggi Chabu, the school’s student affairs senior assistant.
The outreach also included the distribution of school supplies such as uniforms, schoolbags, and shoes, primarily benefiting Penan students.
“Volunteers set up a new bookshelf filled with storybooks and organised engaging ice-breaking games for approximately 400 students. Additionally, Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan conducted a basic first aid session, teaching CPR and the use of AED devices.”
The convoy concluded its return journey on July 6, with volunteers leaving Long Bedian exhausted but proud of their meaningful contributions.
