SIBU: Sarawakian students who cannot afford to buy air tickets to go home to vote during the 15th general election can apply for the Free air tickets, Return to Vote 2.0 campaign.

The campaign is organised by the Christian Social Care Department of the Methodist Sarawak Chinese Year Council.

According to Pastor Chen Junjie, who is the person in charge of the ministry, students who wish to apply for free air tickets must submit their application online, together with a valid student ID card and their voter’s certificate which is available at the Election Commission website.

Application can be made at https://forms.gle/WBSTVqiGDd88t7yKA. The closing date is on Oct 27.

Chen said as at 9am this morning, they have received more than 600 applications.

“This is the second time that we are doing this to help needy students to buy air ticket to go home to vote. This first one was during the 2018 election where we collected RM200,000 from donations for 600 successful applicants,” he said.

This time, they were expecting to receive donations amounting to RM300,000.

“This time we don’t know how many we can give but we have only set our closing date to Oct 27. But we will try our best. We are anticipating to collect RM300,000 so more students can qualify for it,” said Chen who is in charge of the ministry.

He said as this is for students who cannot afford to purchase airline tickets, those who can or have bought tickets, are advised to make way for other students who are more in need.

“After all, the resources for this movement are collected from the public, which is very limited,” he said.

He also called on the people regardless of race and religion to participate in the donation drive by WhatsApp to him at 019-8548175.
