KUCHING: Every non-governmental organisation (NGO) that is applying for a grant under the NGO Empowerment Programme has to submit a working paper containing elements that emphasise on the programme’s objectives including the allocation detail.
This was said by Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah while officiating at the “Sejambak Kasih Krismas 2018” programme here yesterday.
She added the papers had to be submitted to her ministry 14 days after the programme ended.
“It is to ensure that every grant that had been allocated has a high impact on the community.
“This is because in 2019, a total of RM1.8 million has been allocated by the ministry under the NGO Empowerment Programme,” said Fatimah.
She also disclosed that a total of 497 NGOs had collaborated with her ministry in organising various programmes and providing direct assistance to the community through the grants which had been channelled.
Meanwhile, a total of 112 NGOS from the Kuching Division had received the “kek lapis”.
Among them were the Association of Registered Childcare Providers, Association for Children with Critical Illness, Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society, Sarawak Ping Pong and Ten Pin Bowling Associations, Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) and Sarawak Society for the Blind.
“The objective of this programme is to ensure that every NGO remains active in implementing various programmes including the planning of future activities,” said Fatimah.
