SIBU: A total of 14 recipients comprising various NGOs and associations received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants totalling RM147,000 from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan Service Centre here today.
Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, when met by reporters, said this is the first batch of MRP grants being distributed.
“We have more than 100 recipients in total, with RM2 million in funding. The rest will be distributed next week,” he said at the MRP handover ceremony held at the PDP Bawang Assan Service Centre.
He stressed that the service centre is doing its best to allocate funds to associations, JKKKs, and NGOs based on their needs.
“As we all know, the Bawang Assan constituency covers a large area with more than 30,000 voters. Of course, the allocation is not enough to cater to everyone’s needs.
“We are trying our best to ensure everyone is included. Therefore, for those who have yet to receive assistance or whose allocations are insufficient, I hope they will apply again next year,” he added.
Wong said that as the assemblyman for Bawang Assan, he receives a total of RM8 million in allocations, including RM2 million for MRP, RM5 million for the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), and RM1 million under the Sarawak House Repairs for the Poor (PPRMS) grant.
“We try our best to be fair. I’m sure it’s not enough, but hopefully you can apply again next year, as these government funds are allocated annually,” he said.
Also present were a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Joshua Ting Fu Ying, and PDP Bawang Assan chairman Wong Hua.
