BAU: Six motorcycles were seized and 38 summonses were issued against riders for various traffic offences during an operation dubbed ‘Op Motosikal’ last night (Aug 9).
Held from 6 pm until midnight, eight traffic policemen from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division inspected a total of 56 motorcycles and checked 64 individuals around Bau market, with additional patrols along Jalan Bau–Batu Kawa.
Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said such an operation was aimed at cracking down on dangerous riding and illegal modifications.
“Six motorcycles were confiscated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987, while 38 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
“The most summonses issued was for vehicle structure modifications with 14; non-compliant license plates (eight); no side mirrors (seven); no driving licence (seven); failure to display a ‘P’ sticker (one); and failure to display an ‘L’ licence (one),” he said.
In light of this, he reminded all road users, especially motorcyclists, to always obey the traffic laws and prioritise safety.
“Parents must also play their role in monitoring their children to ensure they are not involved in unlawful motorcycling activities,” he said.
Dr Daram urged the public to continue reporting any illegal street activities to the district’s police operation room at 082-763311.
