PANTU: More than 1,000 boxes of drinking water have been distributed to nine drought-hit longhouses in the Pantu District to assist residents’ access to essential supplies.

The aid, provided by the Sri Aman Welfare Department (JKM), was distributed by the Pantu District Office in collaboration with the Sri Aman District Civil Defence Force (APM) through a special operation on Wednesday.

According to Sri Aman District Civil Defence Officer Lieutenant (PA) Kamal Bujang said the recipients included Rumah Jinggan, Menangkin Ili, which received 86 boxes; Rumah Sadiah, Ragai Baru Tuba (118); Rumah Chendan, Mentu Tengah (108); and Rumah Zamry, Ipoh Muding (72).

He said assistance was also distributed to Rumah Sadut, Sapak Rembai, with 172 boxes; Rumah Udin, Sapak Tengah (90); Rumah Busang, Ibol Muding (146); Rumah Chaling, Ibol Tengah (44); and Rumah Lansam, Kandis Asal (170).

“Before the special operation began, five Sri Aman APM personnel led by Corporal (PA) Muhammad Zulkarnie Dawi attended a briefing delivered by SAO Patat Governor at the Pantu District Office on the implementation and coordination of aid distribution to affected residents.

“The distribution of drinking water to the nine longhouses then began immediately after the briefing and deployment arrangements were completed at 3.55 pm,” he said.

Kamal added that the distribution was part of ongoing efforts to ensure basic necessities for residents affected by the drought were delivered in an organised, comprehensive and effective manner.

“It is hoped that the assistance will help ease the burden on residents in Pantu District affected by the drought, while ensuring their welfare and basic needs continue to receive attention from time to time,” he said.
