MIRI: Authorities swiftly made arrangements for temporary accommodation for nine families from Kampung Lereng Bukit displaced by a landslide on Jan 29.
Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin confirmed today that the affected residents have been relocated to a temporary evacuation relief centre (PPS).
Earlier in the day, Lee chaired a meeting on the resettlement plans for Kampung Lereng Bukit and Kampung Haji Waheed, both impacted by recent landslides.
During the session, on behalf of the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee, he received a RM200,000 donation from a benefactor to aid victims of floods and landslides in the division.
“We are pleased that some developers who attended the meeting have expressed willingness to assist,” said Lee.
“Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd has generously offered four houses as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative for a period of three months.
“Another temporary accommodation option has also been suggested, including a site previously used during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
A team will inspect the proposed accommodations later today to determine their suitability.
The Housing Commission has been engaged to secure longer-term housing solutions until permanent resettlement arrangements are finalised.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor the situation at Kampung Lereng Bukit. Reports from the Ketua Kaum suggest that more than nine houses may be at risk, prompting the disaster management team to conduct further assessments.
“The committee will determine whether additional families need to be relocated and how best to provide them with temporary accommodation,” Lee added.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd and the housing developers for stepping forward to offer shelter in this urgent time of need.”
The resettlement efforts remain a priority, with authorities working to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
