SIBU: Nine individuals, including four women from seven furniture shops, were each slapped with a RM1,000 compound for violating the movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The premises were found to be operating last Sunday (Jan 31) although they should be closed as furniture shops were not considered an essential service.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said a patrol team carried out inspections in Sungai Merah and Sibu town to enforce the MCO regulations from 11am to 1pm.

“After finding out that they were operating, all these seven furniture shops were instructed to close down.

“Nine individuals comprising the owners and workers were taken to the police station for compounding actions,” he said.

The compounds were issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the Area of Infection Area) (No.2) Regulations 2021.

The offenders were given a 14-day period to settle the fine at the Sibu Division Health Office.
