KUCHING: AirBorneo has yet to submit any application for a proposed Bangkok route, despite speculation over the airline’s possible expansion into the Thai capital.
In a statement, the airline said while destinations across the region remain part of its long-term network expansion plans, reports and discussions regarding a Bangkok service should not be regarded as confirmed at this stage.
“However, we wish to clarify that no application has been submitted for the recently mentioned Bangkok route at this stage, as nothing has been formally confirmed,” it said.
AirBorneo stressed that any future international route would be subject to the standard regulatory and approval processes before any official announcement can be made.
The airline also cautioned the public against treating any proposed route, flight frequency or operating schedule as confirmed until all necessary approvals have been obtained and the process is completed.
According to AirBorneo, regional destinations continue to be considered as part of its broader growth strategy, reflecting the strong public interest in the airline’s future network development.
Nevertheless, the airline said its immediate focus remains on strengthening and stabilising its existing intra-Borneo operations following service disruptions experienced earlier this month.
It noted that recovery efforts are progressing well and that priority is being given to ensuring reliable services across its current network.
“We are committed to getting the fundamentals right for our existing routes first,” the statement said.
AirBorneo added that any confirmed developments regarding network expansion will be announced through its official communication channels at the appropriate time.
