KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has confirmed that there were no elements of cruelty involved in the recent death of a cat found within its campus grounds.
According to a statement issued by its Corporate Communication Division today, the UNIMAS Security Division received a report from a campus resident on April 18 regarding the discovery of a dead cat in the Allamanda Residential College area.
A thorough investigation was carried out by the university’s security team, which included witness interviews, CCTV footage review, and analysis of images from the scene.
Based on the findings gathered, UNIMAS confirmed that the cat’s death did not involve any form of abuse or deliberate harm by humans.
UNIMAS also emphasised that it takes such incidents seriously and remains committed to upholding a safe and caring campus environment for all, including stray animals that have become part of the campus community.
The university further urged members of the campus community to remain attentive and responsible towards the welfare of stray animals, especially those residing within university grounds.
“Stray animals are also part of our sustainable campus community, and their wellbeing is a shared responsibility,” the statement read.
UNIMAS reiterated its values of compassion, protection, and social responsibility, underlining its commitment to ensuring that stray animals on campus receive proper care and attention.
“As an animal-friendly campus, we will continue to champion efforts that prioritise the safety and welfare of animals within the university environment,” it concluded.
UNIMAS encourages all students and staff to report any animal-related incidents immediately to help safeguard the wellbeing of all creatures within the campus.
