SERIAN: Strict adherence to procedures and full transparency in the distribution of the RM150 ‘Bantuan Awal Persekolahan’ (BAP) aid must be upheld, with no deductions allowed under any circumstances.

State Education Department (JPNS) Director, Omar Mahli, said that every student is entitled to receive the full RM150, warning school administrators against making any cut during the distribution process.

“Parents were also urged to lodge reports with their respective District Education Offices (PPD) should they receive less than the stipulated amount.

“Do not let the amount fall short, whether RM50, RM100 or even RM1. If there is any shortfall, parents have the right to report the matter to the PPD,” he said during the state-level BAP 2026 handover event at Dewan SJK (C) Chung Hua Batu 35 here.

It was officiated by Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, today.

Omar said all PPDs, principals and headmasters must comply strictly with existing financial regulations and circulars governing the management of BAP to ensure the process runs smoothly, orderly and with integrity.

As secondary emphasis, he reiterated that education remains a top priority for the Sarawak Government, with strong commitment shown by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sagah in ensuring students’ welfare is safeguarded.

He said the BAP programme reflects the government’s concern in helping students begin the school year on a stronger footing, noting that while RM150 may seem modest, the overall expenditure involved nationwide is substantial.

On distribution, Omar explained that all schools in Sarawak began disbursing the aid from January 12 and are given a 30-day period to complete the process.

He added that schools are encouraged to distribute the assistance as early as possible, although flexibility is allowed due to challenges such as flooding in certain areas, including parts of Serian district.

In cases of delay, he said schools must inform parents clearly of the reasons and provide a confirmed distribution date, stressing that the needs of students should always be prioritised.

Touching on flood-related challenges, Omar noted that some students had lost school uniforms due to flooding, prompting additional assistance from the Sarawak Government, including the provision of replacement uniforms through relevant agencies.

He also expressing confidence that continued cooperation among all parties would ensure the success of the BAP programme for the benefit of Sarawak’s students.
