IPOH: Perak Fisheries Department has confirmed that no dolphin carcasses were discovered in waters around Ban Pecah, Tanjung Piandang, during an investigation by its officers yesterday.
Its director Mohd Ghazali A. Manap said the carcass could have been swept to another location by currents or waves before the inspection.
“We first learned about the matter through a video that went viral on TikTok on Aug 5, which was brought to our attention by the Kuala Kurau Fisheries Conservation and Protection Base.
“In response to the complaint, four officers searched the coastline from Kuala Kurau to Tanjung Piandang but found no sign of the marine mammal’s carcass,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
A video posted on Instagram on Aug 4 showing a dolphin carcass caught the attention of social media users, many of whom expressed concern about the condition of marine life in the area.
Mohd Ghazali said the area would remain under observation, with appropriate action to be taken should any new findings emerge.
He urged members of the public, especially those in the local community with information about the incident, to notify the department as soon as possible, stressing that keeping a marine animal carcass is an offence under the law. – BERNAMA
