No foul play, say police

KUCHING: Police yesterday ruled out any militant or criminal elements in their investigations into the blast that rocked CityOne Megamall on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to the media at the mall here, Sarawak deputy police commissioner DCP Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim (pic) said the police  had classified the deaths of the three victims on Tuesday as sudden death.

“The hospital has completed  post-mortems on two of them while the post mortem on another one is underway,” he said.

The blast which occurred at 3.30pm on Tuesday left three men dead and 44 other individuals injured.

Dzuraidi added that the cause of the blast was still being investigated by the Fire and Rescue Department and the Department of  Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

He said the result of the investigation would be referred to the State Attorney General’s Office if there were elements of negligence, etc. 

Present during Mohd  Dzuraidi’s visit were Kuching police chief  Supt Ng Ah Lek, Fire and Rescue Department Sarawak’s director Khirudin Drahman and Department of Occupational Safety and Health Sarawak director Ir. Dr Nor Halim Hasan.

ACP Ng said a 29-year-old Indonesian worker was also injured in the blast.
