MIRI: Sarawak must remain under the control of its own people, free from the influence of external political parties, said Deputy President of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“Sarawak must be governed by Sarawakians – by those who understand our people and our unique living conditions. We do not need national parties such as PAS, UMNO, PKR, Amanah, or DAP dictating how we manage our affairs,” said Abdul Karim in front of 1,000 delegates during the PBB Lambir Triennial General Meeting (TGM)today (Dec 29).

“In Sarawak, we are in agreement that external parties should not determine our direction. The governance of our state must reflect the aspirations and needs of our own people.”

Drawing a comparison with Sabah, the Asajaya assemblyman and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts pointed out the challenges faced there and cautioned against taking a similar approach.

He also touched on the historical journey towards autonomy, noting that the process of achieving it had been long and arduous.

He urged leaders and political parties within Sarawak to prioritise unity and work towards a common goal rather than allowing external influences to dictate the state’s future.

“We cannot afford to let external parties intervene in the name of democracy. Our leaders must have the vision to see beyond immediate political gains and focus on what is best for Sarawak,” he said.

Also present were Sibuti MP and Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, who chairs the PBB Pujut branch, and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, who serves as the Lambir assemblyman and PBB Lambir chairman.
