KUCHING: The Ministry of Public Works has confirmed that no public infrastructure damage has been reported following recent earthquakes in Segamat, Johor, and several other states.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the Public Works Department (PWD) is closely monitoring the situation from its Disaster Operations Room, known as BigBen.
“Through BigBen, we monitor all disaster-related incidents, whether floods, landslides, or earthquakes. At this stage, the situation is under control, and there is no reported damage to our infrastructure, including roads,” he said during a press conference at the Sarawak Facility Management Industry Engagement Day 2025 today.
Nanta explained that the ministry is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure timely assessments and responses to any potential threats.
He also highlighted that the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is adopting a proactive approach to strengthen building standards and ensure structures are resilient to natural disasters.
“CIDB, like other agencies, is dynamic in its approach to improving the construction industry. We cannot take these incidents lightly or assume Malaysia is free from earthquakes. Continuous monitoring and updated safety measures are essential,” he said.
Nanta further assured that, based on current assessments, Malaysia’s infrastructure remains safe and meets the required construction standards.
