JAKARTA, Indonesia: Indonesia’s Editors-in-Chief Forum is advocating a ‘No Tax for Knowledge’ proposal, calling for tax relief for verified media outlets to help sustain credible journalism.

Forum chief, Retno Pinasti, was quoted by state news agency ANTARA at the ‘Run for Good Journalism’ event on Sunday as saying that the initiative supports outlets committed to delivering accurate information and public education.

She said sustaining credible journalism is vital for the public and the state to access trustworthy news.

“Amid this storm of information, fake news is everywhere, and it is precisely the role of credible journalists to guide the public with truth and education,” Retno added.

Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who attended the event, acknowledged the forum’s concerns over a struggling media sector, and urged journalists to continue providing criticism and advice to help safeguard the domestic economy. – BERNAMA
