KUCHING: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia has opened nominations for the 2025 JCI Malaysia Sustainable Development Award (JCIM SDA), recognising outstanding sustainable projects by Malaysian companies and organisations.

The award, organised by JCI Kuching, aims to promote sustainability, encourage responsible business practices, and highlight impactful initiatives that contribute to social and environmental well-being.

Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said such initiatives play a key role in promoting sustainability across sectors.

“I encourage more Malaysian companies and organisations to submit their projects for this award, as it will not only add value and goodwill to their brand but also contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

“By working together to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), we can help ensure that no one is left behind,” he told a press conference, here yesterday.

The JCI Malaysia Sustainable Development Award was established in 2017 as part of JCI Malaysia’s commitment to supporting the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were introduced in 2015 to replace the Millennium Development Goals.

Since then, the award has been held annually across Malaysia, recognising organisations that integrate sustainability into their operations and projects.

According to organising chairperson Bivi Ling, the JCIM SDA trophy represents the five pillars of UNSDGs: People, Planet, Prosperity, Partnership, and Peace.

“The award is open to all businesses, from micro-enterprises to multinational corporations (MNCs), government-linked companies (GLCs), and NGOs,” she added.

Nominations open on Feb 10, with entries to be submitted online at sda.jcimalaysia.cc. The entry fee is RM1,200 for companies and RM600 for NGOs/government agencies, which includes one ticket to the award ceremony.

Forty finalists will be shortlisted nationwide, with 17 category winners and one Grand Prize winner announced at the Grand Award Ceremony on September 21 at the Imperial Hotel, here.
