KUALA LUMPUR: Sensational national teenage female player, Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan, has chosen a realistic approach with Low Zi Yu when setting a target to break into the world’s Top 50 as the initial step in planning their career direction.
The 18-year-old athlete said she does not want to rush into pursuing big targets, instead choosing to focus on gradually improving her performance with their partnership showing positive developments on the international stage.
“We want to move up one step at a time. For now, our target is the Top 50 first.
“The Top 32 group in the world is certainly important because it opens up opportunities to play in more major tournaments, but the focus right now is to continue to improve our ranking gradually,” she said when met at a recent training session.
According to Aqilah, the pair, who are currently ranked 70th in the world, has also improved on the court to the point where they were able to provide fierce opposition to the world’s top ranks, including defeating the eighth-ranked pair of Taiwan, Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu, at the Australian Open last week.
“In the past, when we faced a pair from Taiwan, we were still unable to put pressure on them. But when we met the same opponents after about two months, we were able to compete better. I think that’s a positive development for us,” she said. – BERNAMA
