KUCHING: Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) has ushered in its 37th year of service today (Aug 9) with its Open Day 2025 programme.

The celebration has drawn patients, families, friends, and first-time visitors, many coming for free health checks, fitness activities, and the chance to reconnect with the centre that has been part of Sarawak’s healthcare story for nearly four decades.

Festivities began in the early morning with a taichi session, followed by an upbeat zumba workout to encourage active lifestyles.

NMSC’s medical director Dr William Luong Chau together with management members and department heads also conducted a symbolic balloon release in conjunction with the celebration.

This year’s celebration carries added meaning as NMSC is recently listed among the World’s Best Hospitals 2025 by Newsweek, a recognition of its commitment to patient-centred care and clinical excellence.

The day’s activities also featured the involvement of the National Population and Family Development Board Sarawak (LPPKN) and the Kuching Division Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Visitors explored booths offering health advice, preventive care tips, and nutrition guidance, while taking advantage of free services such as basic health screenings, diet consultations, and antenatal workouts for expectant mothers.

Local businesses and community partners were also present to offer product samplings, promotions, and giveaways. Participating brands include Mekar Fragrances, Moms Confinement Care, Wyeth Nutrition, Ronnie Optics, Jaya Chiropractic and many more.

Beyond health-related activities, families enjoy children’s games, food trucks, bazaar stalls, and a flea market, on top of a blood donation drive and rehabilitation therapy dialogues.
