KUCHING: Some 100 participants, including students, community staff, trainers, parents and elderly members of ‘Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti’ (PDK) Sri Satok here took part in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme organised by Normah Medical Specialist Centre.
The event, held from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm today was organised in conjunction with Nurses Day 2025 to strengthen community engagement and raise awareness on health and wellness.
The impactful event featured three concurrent sessions designed to cater to the diverse needs of the community.
The event began with the first session in the outdoor treatment room, featuring a Health Awareness Talk titled ‘What is Diabetes and Managing Diabetes Through the Right Diet’.
This informative session was conducted by Nursing Officer, Vanessa Eding, a diabetic nurse, together with Normah’s Clinical Dietitian, Goh Ruey Shin.
The second session, held in the indoor treatment room, offered health screenings for Body Mass Index (BMI), glucose levels and blood pressure.
Participants also visited the First Aid booth, where they gained vital lifesaving skills through a CPR demonstration led by Area Nurse Manager, Annie Chan, and Nursing Officer, Jacqueline Ragut.
The final session took place in the lower ground classroom, focusing on hand hygiene and occupational therapy.
Nursing Officer, Siti Farizan, and Senior Staff Nurse, Jinie Risen, conducted a handwashing demonstration, teaching proper techniques to prevent the spread of illness.
Meanwhile, physiotherapist, Caroline Petra, and occupational therapist, Stella, guided participants through creative and engaging occupational therapy activities, making the session both educational and enjoyable.
This initiative underscored Normah Medical Specialist Centre’s commitment to community health and its efforts to strengthen connections between healthcare providers and the community.
As support, the Premier’s wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, also took time to attend the programme.

Hand Hygiene Week (May 5-9): A week-long campaign to promote proper hand hygiene among staff, patients and visitors, featuring educational booths, live demonstrations, and interactive activities.
Team Building Programme (May 10-11): A dynamic two-day event designed to enhance teamwork, communication and unity among the nursing team through engaging activities.
Nurses Assembly (May 13): A special gathering at Normah Medical Specialist Centre’s Auditorium to celebrate the dedication of nurses, featuring speeches, award presentations and reflections on the nursing profession’s achievements and milestones.
