KUCHING: A total of 139 medical personnel participated in the first-ever Interventional Radiology Seminar organised by Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) today.
The participants are from NMSC, dialysis centres and the National Kidney Foundation all around Kuching and Miri.
Themed ‘Advancing Expertise in Dialysis Access Management’, the seminar was held at NMSC’s Auditorium and focused on improving clinical knowledge and practical techniques in dialysis care, especially in the creation, management and maintenance of arteriovenous (AV) fistulas.
The event opened with a presentation by Dr William Luong Chau, consultant nephrologist and NMSC Medical Director, who spoke on ‘Good Dialysis Prescription’, addressing the importance of tailored treatments to enhance patient outcomes.
He was followed by Professor Dr Clarence Lei Chang Moh, consultant urologist, who shared expert insights on the ‘Criteria for an Ideal AV Fistula Creation’, highlighting anatomical and clinical considerations for effective dialysis access.

Cindy Elynn Bakar Frade, assistant nursing officer and renal nurse, then presented practical advice on ‘AV Fistula Care’, offering hands-on guidance for ongoing fistula management.
The seminar concluded with a comprehensive session by Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohamad Ali, consultant interventional radiologist, who discussed on ‘Maintenance of Dialysis AV Fistula’, covering techniques to ensure long-term fistula viability.
All the participants were eligible to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, supporting their ongoing career growth and skills enhancement.
The seminar marks a major milestone for NMSC, being the first interventional radiology-focused event hosted by the centre.
It comes shortly after its recent inclusion in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list, an achievement that reflects its growing reputation for excellence in patient care and specialised training.
