KUCHING: In honour of International Nurses Day 2025, Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) held its Annual Nurses Day Assembly today to celebrate the invaluable contributions of nurses.

NMSC chief operating officer (COO) Vesmawati Jaffar said that the occasion was a moment to reflect on the vital role nurses play and to recognise their unwavering dedication.

“On behalf of the management, we remain fully committed to supporting this journey by advocating for adequate staffing levels and sustainable workloads, while empowering nurses to participate in leadership and strategic decision-making.

“We also aim to establish clear career development pathways at all levels and ensure that recognition is meaningful and contributes to professional growth.

“We believe that when nurses are respected, valued and well-supported, patients receive better care, institutions grow stronger, communities thrive and also strengthen our economics,” she said.

She said this in her speech during the event at the Auditorium, Level 4, Normah Clinic, NMSC here today.

Vesmawati added that these efforts have been fundamental in building a stronger, more resilient nursing workforce, while acknowledging that this progress is an ongoing journey, not a one-time achievement.

Meanwhile, NMSC nursing director Nadzrah Basri said that caring for nurses strengthens the economy.

“This theme reminds us that taking care of nurses is not only good for healthcare, but also helps to build a stronger economy.

“Nurses are present in every part of healthcare, in the ward, clinic and even rural communities.

“We are often the first to arrive and the last to leave. We care for patients, comfort the family and carry out our duties with care and professionalism but our role is more than bedside care” she said.

A special highlight of the event was the announcement of the Best Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Achievement Award for 2024, presented to outstanding nursing teams from Serapi, Mulu, and ICU/HDU wards which were recognised for their impactful improvements in emergency care, communication for patient safety, and standards of care.
