Norway, Sarawak enhance relations, economic cooperation

KUCHING: Diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between Norway and Sarawak have been further strengthened after the newly appointed Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia Marianne Folsan paid a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar today.

Folsan was accompanied by deputy Head of Mission, Knut Oyvind Granli; Embassy trainee, Elisabeth Rapp; and director of the Regional Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (Sarawak), Datuk Fenny Nuli.

Wan Junaidi in a Facebook post said the visit served to officially introduce Folsan and to enhance diplomatic ties and bilateral collaboration between the Norwegian government and Sarawak.

During the meeting, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, both sides discussed a range of shared interests, including renewable energy, environmental sustainability, trade, education and green technology-driven economic development.

Folsan expressed Norway’s readiness to share its expertise and advanced technologies in renewable energy and environmental management, noting that Norway is among the world’s leading nations in the green industry.

Wan Junaidi asserted that green energy initiatives align with Sarawak’s aspiration to become a developed and resilient state by 2030 through sustainable economic growth and technological innovation.

He added that strategic cooperation with Norway would open new investment opportunities, create high-skilled jobs and enhance Sarawak’s competitiveness in the global green economy.

The Head of State also expressed confidence that the close relationship between Sarawak and Norway would continue to flourish, particularly in implementing clean energy projects, education and innovative economic ventures that bring mutual benefits to peoples of both regions.
