SELANGOR: A pair of new records saw Sarawak’s Noshazwani Maisara Marzuki crowned Sportswoman of Para SUKMA Selangor 2026.
The para athlete produced a standout performance in the women’s F37 shot put and javelin events, rewriting the Games records in both disciplines.
Noshazwani set a new mark of 8.93 metres in the shot put, eclipsing the previous record of 7.25m set in 2016.
She then followed it up with a 19.34m throw in the javelin to break the previous record of 18.57m set in 2024.
Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said Noshazwani’s achievements demonstrated the potential of Sarawak’s para athletes when given the right opportunities and support.
“Noshazwani succeeded in creating two new records at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 in the women’s F37 shot put with a throw of 8.93 metres, surpassing the previous record of 7.25 metres set in 2016.
“She also broke the women’s F37 javelin record with a throw of 19.34 metres, improving on the previous mark of 18.57 metres set in 2024.
“Her outstanding performance also earned her recognition as the Sportswoman of Para SUKMA Selangor 2026,” she said in her address at the Sarawak Contingent Gala Dinner last night (Sept 10).
The award also saw Noshazwani take home RM5,000 in prize money.
Besides Noshazwani, five other Sarawak athletes also set new records during the Games — Richard Bada, Nurfahani Kudus, Noria Bada, Galang Jabai and Rusdianto Rusmadi — in para athletics and para swimming.
Fatimah said the achievements proved that Sarawak’s para athletes were not only capable of competing, but also breaking records and making history at Para SUKMA.
“These achievements demonstrate that Sarawak has a strong pool of para talent with great potential that can be further developed to a higher level.
“More importantly, these achievements reflect our continued commitment to building an inclusive society by ensuring that persons with disabilities (OKU) are given equal opportunities to participate in sports, develop their talents, build self-confidence and contribute to society,” she said.
