BAU: Two teenage boys have turned themselves in to the police after a viral video showed them pulling off dangerous motorcycle stunts along Jalan Bau-Lundu on Monday (May 19).
The 26-second clip, which made rounds on social media, captured both riders lying flat on their motorcycles in a reckless stunt known as the ‘Superman’ before racing side by side in broad daylight.
But their high-speed showboating didn’t last long.
The Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the pair, believed to be in their teens, surrendered themselves at Bau police station around 9.10 am yesterday (May 20).
“Preliminary interrogation revealed that both admitted to being the riders featured in the video. They confessed to performing the dangerous stunts and racing one another,” the department said.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a maximum fine of RM15,000, imprisonment for a term of up to five years, and license disqualification for a term of up to five years, upon conviction.
The department assured that it will continuously monitor and put the brakes on any dangerous antics that endanger the lives of innocent road users.
Parents and family members should keep tabs on their children to prevent them from getting involved in such negative behaviours.
