KUCHING: Several areas in Kuching will face low water pressure or temporary supply disruptions on Aug 13 as the Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (SWSB) is carrying out major repairs on a damaged pipeline along Jalan Matang.
The unscheduled works involve a 1,100mm diameter mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pumping main near Taman Heng Guan, which had suffered a dislocation.
Welding is already three-quarters complete, but persistent leakage at the bottom section requires full rectification.
The company assured that it is working to stabilise water levels at the Bukit Siol, Datu Muda, Pending and 9 3/4 Mile reservoirs to prevent prolonged supply issues.
SWSB said the shutdown is scheduled from 9 pm on Wednesday (Aug 13), to 8 am the next day.
Areas expected to be affected include Jalan Matang (Kubah Ria to Batu 9), Taman Sri Harmoni, Jalan Sungai Tengah, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhamad Salahudin, Jalan Demak, Jalan Bako, Muara Tebas, Petra Jaya and nearby JBALB supply zones.
Water tankers will be deployed, and consumers are urged to store sufficient water in advance.
Meanwhile, SWSB reported that repairs to a separate 750mm diameter MSCL pumping main along Jalan Matang–Batu Kawa near Emart Moyan were completed ahead of schedule on August 7, following the pipe’s first recorded burst the previous night.
Following the repairs, immediate flushing was carried out to restore clean water supply to affected areas, including Batu Kawa, Moyan, Matang Jaya, Petra Jaya and surrounding areas.
