KUCHING: The number of evacuees at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) continues to decline, with 4,668 evacuees recorded on Thursday (Feb 6), compared to 5,567 on Wednesday (Feb 5).

Despite the decreasing number of evacuees, two new PPS have been opened—one in Sibu Division, namely Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Bahagia Jaya, and another in Miri Division at SMK Bakong.

“The Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Bahagia Jaya was opened due to a landslide affecting residents of Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku, while SMK Bakong was opened due to flooding,” said SDMC in a statement on Thursday (Feb 6).

As of 4 pm, Thursday (Feb 6), six PPS have been closed: Dewan Pujut Tanjung Batu Miri, Dewan Pembangunan Daerah Sebuyau Samarahan, SK Tanah Putih Serian, Dewan Kampung Bawang Matu Mukah, Dewan Sukan Kidurong Bintulu, and Kelab Melayu Kampung Bandung Sibu.

With the closure of six PPS and the opening of two, the total number of active PPS for flood and landslide victims throughout Sarawak now stands at 28.

“As of 4pm, there are only two active PPS in Samarahan, one in Sarikei, seven in Sibu, four in Mukah, five in Bintulu, and nine in Miri, while no PPS remain active in Kuching, Serian, Betong, and Kapit,” SDMC said.
