ASAJAYA: Mohd Nur Ikmal Kepli and Sofiah Seman were crowned champions in the Qari and Qariah categories respectively at the District-Level Quran Recitation (Tilawah) Competition 2026 held at Masjid An-Najah here on Saturday night (Apr 25).
Nur Ikmal, representing Kampung Sambir, clinched the Qari title and received RM500 in cash, a trophy and accompanying prizes.
His father, Kepli Suut, also from Kampung Sambir, finished second, while third place was secured by Mohd Khair Hasbi from Kampung Moyan Laut.
They took home RM400 and RM300 respectively, along with trophies and consolation prizes.
In the Qariah category, Sofiah Seman from Kampung Iboi Ulu emerged champion, also winning RM500, a trophy and additional prizes.
Meriam Ramli from Kampung Sadong Jaya Laut finished second, while Siti Jamilah Abdul Rahman from Kampung Jaie Ulu came in third, receiving RM400 and RM300 respectively, along with trophies and consolation prizes.
The prizes were presented by Rais Ahmat on behalf of Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also Asajaya assemblyman.
The event also featured a qasidah performance by the Muhammad Al-Fateh Education Centre Asajaya.
Among those present were Asajaya District Officer and organising chairman Jerry Zannuddin Bidin, Samarahan Division Islamic Affairs Officer Bahrin Kawi, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) Chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and Temenggong of the Malay community for Samarahan Division Chek Bujang, along with local community leaders and officials.
