BINTULU: Nur Syafiqah Tiffany was crowned ‘Kumang Gawai’ in conjunction with the 2025 Gawai Dayak Tatau District celebration held at the Dinner World Bintulu Restaurant on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old, of Iban, Chinese and Filipino descents, took home a cash prize of RM3,000, along with a trophy, tiara, sash, bouquet of flowers and a certificate of participation.
The second place, carrying the title of ‘Lulong Gawai Dayak’ Tatau District, was awarded to Emelly Clara, who received RM2,500, a trophy, sash, bouquet of flowers and a certificate.
Meanwhile, the third place went to Sylviana Rinya, who earned the title of ‘Selinggar Matahari Gawai Dayak’ Tatau District. She brought home RM1,500 and received similar prizes.
The awards were presented by Datin Seri Melia Gelen, wife of the Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and Kakus Assemblyman, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai.
A total of eight contestants participated in the beauty pageant that celebrated Dayak cultural elements.
The pageant served as the highlight of the Gawai Dayak festivities, jointly organised by the Tatau District Community and Tribal Heads Committee (KMKK) and the Tatau District Dayak Association, chaired by Pemanca Gerunsin Jubin.
Themed ‘Segulai Sejalai Nuju Pemansang’, the event also featured a variety of cultural performances by the local Dayak and ethnic communities, adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration.
