SAN JOSE (United States): Chip maker Nvidia on Monday said it expects to resume sales of its H20 artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China after receiving confirmation from the United States (US) government that export licenses will be granted, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
Nvidia’s H20 semiconductors, a scaled-down version of the company’s more powerful AI chips designed for the Chinese market to comply with earlier US rules, have also been restricted since the introduction of tighter restrictions in April.
Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said in a Monday blog post that the company is filing applications to sell the H20 chip in China again.
“The US government has assured NVIDIA that licenses will be granted, and NVIDIA hopes to start deliveries soon,” the company added.
The move comes after Huang’s recent meeting with President Donald Trump and US policymakers, where he reaffirmed his “support for the Administration’s effort to create jobs, strengthen domestic AI infrastructure and onshore manufacturing, and ensure that America leads in AI worldwide.”
The US government, under both Trump and his predecessor Joe Biden, has been curbing the export of some semiconductor chips and equipment to China, citing national security.
Nvidia also announced plans to launch the RTX PRO, a new AI chip tailored specifically for the Chinese market and engineered to comply with export regulations. – BERNAMA-dpa
