KUCHING: Pelagus Assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang, who will be contesting the presidency of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), pledged to bring renewal, progress and stronger grassroots representation to the party.
Nyabong said the decision was not made lightly but driven by the strong support and encouragement that he received from PRS divisions across Sarawak.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to all PRS Divisions that have given me their trust and confidence.
“Although I am just an ordinary elected representative and a member of the PRS Supreme Council, this support proves that the grassroots voice of PRS clearly desires renewal, progress, and the spirit of change.
“It is because of this encouragement and determination that I am offering myself to lead PRS as its new president.
“This decision was not made lightly, but was born out of the conviction that our party must continue to grow, remain relevant, and strengthen its ties with the grassroots as well as the people.
“I am confident that together, we can build this legacy and prepare PRS for the future,” he said in a statement posted on his official Facebook page today.
He said that his vision is to see PRS evolve into a progressive, inclusive party founded on integrity, while empowering young leaders and strengthening rural communities.
“My mission is to nurture a new generation of capable young leaders, empower rural communities with better infrastructure and opportunities, and drive digital and educational advancement so that no Sarawakian is left behind, particularly the Dayak community,” Nyabong said.
This year’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC), he added, has already marked history with the highest number of nominations for the party’s Supreme Council, signalling the grassroots’ call for rejuvenation and fresh ideas.
Nyabong also welcomed the emergence of new faces contesting for the vice-presidency, namely Baleh Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Lubok Antu Member of Parliament Roy Angau Gingkoi, and Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol, describing it as “a clear sign that the party is ready to embrace renewal and broaden its leadership lineup”.
He further congratulated Vice-President, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, on his nomination as PRS President, saying the one-on-one contest will reflect the party’s maturity and democratic strength.
“With this one-on-one contest, I believe we will go through a healthy and democratic process that reflects the maturity and strength of PRS. Once it is over, let us unite and work together for the good of the party,” he said.
Nyabong reminded members that no individual is bigger than PRS.
“Our strength lies in unity and solidarity in choosing the party’s top leader. With this unity, PRS will continue to stand firm, strong and respected in Sarawak’s political landscape, particularly alongside our comrades in GPS,” he added.
