PELAGUS assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang has called for consideration to be given to amending the Sarawak Constitution to allow for an increase in the number of Ministers in the Sarawak Cabinet (Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri).
In view of Sarawak’s rapid development trajectory and the increasingly complex responsibilities undertaken by the Sarawak government, he said the current maximum number of 10 Ministers was set many years ago, during a very different phase of our state’s growth and governance landscape.

“Today, with Sarawak playing a far more prominent role, not just within Malaysia but also on the global stage in areas such as green energy, digital transformation, education, infrastructure, and economic diversification, our governance structure must evolve accordingly,” he said when seconding the motion of appreciation for the TYT’s address during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 21).
Nyabong said by expanding the number of Ministers, it would enable more focused portfolios, strengthen policy delivery, and enhance the overall administrative efficiency of the Sarawak government.
“This is a necessary and timely step to ensure Sarawak remains agile, responsive, and future-ready in managing its development agenda,” he added.
