KUCHING: The Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival will be held on Dec 6-7 with an expanded programme featuring food showcases, cultural performances, community activities and the state’s largest coffee-themed rave party at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
Now in its third edition, the two-day festival will run from 10am to 6pm.
This year’s programme includes the “Biggest Coffee Rave Party”, powered by Starbucks and Borneoland, as well as a music-infused countdown event.
Vendors from the Sarawak Crafts Council, the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, and the Kuching Car Boot Sale Community will showcase local food, crafts, and creative products.
Ethnic food demonstrations will be led by UCSI University Sarawak Campus academics Muhammad Fikri Umadi and Inchin Meai, together with culinary management students.
A wide selection of food and beverage vendors will also serve authentic Sarawak dishes and regional favourites, with free-flow coffee from Starbucks and Sundrop beverages for visitors.
Meanwhile, cultural activities include traditional kuih demonstrations, cultural performances and traditional games organised by the Sarawak Cultural Village.
The Sarawak Sports Corporation will host various sports and e-sports activities, including archery, lawn bowling, petanque, and boxing.
Community engagement programmes include a SUHAKAM mini talk and exhibition on human rights awareness, as well as a blood donation drive conducted by the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank, Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin and Big Pharmacy, which will also provide complimentary health screenings.
Special hotel packages for festival-goers will be offered by Damai Beach Resort, Damai Lagoon Resort and Permai Rainforest Resort from Dec 5–7.
The road leading to the Sarawak Cultural Village will be closed at the Damai Golf Course T-junction, with entry restricted to authorised vehicles, to manage crowd and traffic flow.
A paid shuttle service will operate from Sarawak Stadium, Samariang New Township and the Damai Golf Course T-junction, with pre-booking available through Alibaba Coach Sdn. Bhd.
Patron of the Sarawak Gastronomy Association, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the festival serves as a platform to unite communities and showcase Sarawak’s culinary strengths.
“Nyamai is more than just a food festival. It celebrates our culinary heritage and promotes Sarawak as a vibrant tourism destination,” she said.
Admission is free for visitors who “like” and “follow” the Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival on its official Facebook and Instagram pages.
