BANGKOK: Malaysia’s performance at the 2025 SEA Games has been described as a realistic outcome that reflects the true strength of the national contingent, said Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary-general Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali.
He said the contingent not only met its medal targets but exceeded initial expectations, underlining the effectiveness of the country’s overall preparation and coordination across agencies.
Mohd Nasir said the results provided a clear and honest assessment of Malaysia’s current capabilities, which is crucial as the nation prepares to host the SEA Games in 2027.
He attributed the achievement to close cooperation between the National Sports Council (MSN), the National Sports Institute (ISN) and OCM, as well as sports-support clubs, stressing that success could not be achieved by any single organisation working in isolation.
“This shows that to achieve success, we need strong collaboration. No organisation can work on its own.
“Everyone must move together with a shared purpose,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Mohd Nasir said the decision to field a strong and competitive contingent at the 2025 SEA Games enabled Malaysia to accurately gauge its level of competitiveness against regional rivals.
He added that the outcome would serve as an important reference point as Malaysia prepares strategies for the 2027 SEA Games, which will be hosted across several locations including Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Penang.
“This is a result that gives us a clear indication of our weaknesses and what we need to address as we prepare for the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and so this a very good outcome,” he said.
A comprehensive post-Games review involving MSN, ISN and OCM will be conducted to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement, with the aim of surpassing the current achievement.
He also expressed appreciation to MSN and ISN for their early and thorough preparations, noting that detailed planning and timely execution played a significant role in delivering the results seen at the Games.
