SARAWAK’S sales tax on oil and gas remains the largest contributor to its overall revenue, generating a cumulative total of RM21.38 billion as of April this year since its introduction in January 2019.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas further said, in 2024, the state achieved a total revenue of RM14.187 billion, marking the highest revenue ever recorded in its history.
Uggah, who is also the Second Minister of Finance and New Economy, said the outstanding accomplishment is a result of ongoing efforts in revenue re-engineering, initiated and led by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The revenue collected has increased by RM876 million, representing a 7 per cent rise compared to RM13.31 billion collected in 2023.
“This increase is primarily attributed to receipts from compensation for oil and gas rights, as well as dividends, interest income, state sales tax, and special grants,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Touching on the state’s ordinary expenditure, he said Sarawak spent a total of RM12.71 billion last year, of which RM4.91 billion was expended on operating expenditures while RM7.8 billion was appropriated to the Development Funds Account to finance the implementation of various development programmes and projects.
“With regards to development expenditure, the state expended a sum of RM8.66 billion out of RM9.1 billion or 95 per cent of the total Development Budget for the year 2024,” he said.
