TANJUNG MANIS: A major fire drill held at the Central Oil Distribution Terminal (CODT) here today served as a key test for multi-agency emergency coordination in the oil and gas sector.
Led by Tanjung Manis Oil Terminal Management Sdn Bhd (TMOTM), the Tier 2 emergency exercise brought together responders from key government agencies, industry players, and the local community, which is in conjunction with OSH Week Sibu Zone 2025.
Director of Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Jamadi Yusup, who officiated at the event, commended TMOTM for fostering a strong safety culture through realistic and inclusive drills.
“This kind of integrated response is vital in ensuring workplace safety and organisational integrity. TMOTM’s commitment sets a benchmark for others to follow,” he said.
Following the drill, a debriefing session was held to assess team coordination, identify gaps, and gather feedback to further improve emergency protocols.
To date, TMOTM has achieved 1.94 million man-hours without a lost-time injury, an achievement attributed to its proactive safety practices and collaborative approach with customers and regulatory bodies.
Among the participating agencies were the Tanjung Manis Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Tanjung Manis District Police, Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), DOSH, and Sarikei Customs Department.
Industry partners, including Shell Timur Sdn Bhd and PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, also took part.
The scenario involved a simulated lorry fire during the loading of Unleaded Gasoline 95, testing the activation of TMOTM’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and the ability of first responders to contain and manage the incident.
The event also included an Integrity Pledge Ceremony, part of a nationwide campaign by DOSH to promote ethical conduct in the workplace.
CODT was chosen as one of the official venues in Sarawak to host the pledge.
The nationwide campaign aims to enter the ASEAN Book of Records for the largest Integrity Pledge ever conducted in Malaysia, by tallying participation numbers from across the country.
The dual event, which is a fire drill and pledge ceremony, not only reinforced TMOTM’s operational readiness but also aligned with national goals of transparency, accountability and workplace safety.
