KOTA SAMARAHAN: Visitors to La Promenade Mall can look forward to a bigger and better Oktoberfest next year as the annual crowd-puller is set to move into the mall’s expanded precinct.

The relocation, announced by La Promenade Mall leasing manager Angeline Ong, comes as the mall undergoes expansion works while continuing to host signature community events.

“Oktoberfest will move into the new precinct next year.

“This is part of our commitment to ensure the festival keeps growing while giving local talents and businesses more space to shine,” she said during the opening night of Oktoberfest at La Promenade compound last night (Sept 19).

She added the mall will maintain its tradition of supporting Sarawak’s creative scene, with the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry ke Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC).

Over the years, La Promenade’s Oktoberfest has become a fixture on Kuching’s social calendar, drawing thousands for live music, food, drinks and family-friendly entertainment.

The event has also been closely tied to the What About Kuching (WAK) Festival since 2023.

Meanwhile Hock Seng Lee (HSL) marketing communications lead Abraham Tiong said the festival’s enduring appeal lies in its simple formula of “good food, fresh beer and great music.”

“We keep refining the set-up each year, from better stages and sound to more room for dancing. Next year, the expanded space will allow us to do even more,” he said.

Past editions have featured popular local acts such as At Adau, Mozaik and Time Signature, whose 2024 singalongs went viral. Organisers say 2026 will see an even wider line-up of homegrown performers.

This year’s edition of Oktoberfest began on Sept 19, held every Friday to Sunday until Oct 5, with festivities running from 5.30 pm to midnight.

Entry to Oktoberfest remains free, with more details on the 2026 edition to be announced next year.
