KUCHING: A man was killed while three others were injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a roadside signpost along Jalan Merbau early this morning.
The accident happened at around 3.30 am when the Perodua Myvi is believed to have lost control before veering off the road and slamming into the signpost near Kuching Port.
All four individuals were found inside the wrecked vehicle and extricated by firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations.
It is unclear who was behind the wheel, based on the victims’ positions following the crash.
One of the victims was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem.
Authorities have yet to release his identity.
Meanwhile, the other three victims — two men aged 23 and 25, and a 32-year-old woman — sustained injuries and received initial treatment at the scene.
They were later transported to SGH for further medical attention. The severity of their injuries was not immediately known.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the operation ended at 5 am after all victims were removed and the area was deemed safe.
