SEOUL: Former Democratic Party (DP) leader Lee Jae Myung has surged past the 50 per cent mark in voter support ahead of South Korea’s June 3 snap presidential election, according to a Realmeter poll released yesterday.

The election follows the Constitutional Court’s ousting of ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol over a failed martial law attempt.

Lee leads with 50.2 per cent, far ahead of former Labour Minister Kim Moon Soo of the People Power Party (PPP) at 12.2 per cent.

Other PPP contenders include Han Dong Hoon (8.5 per cent), Daegu Mayor Hong Joo Pyo (7.5 per cent), and Na Kyung Won (2 per cent).

Party-wise, the DP holds 48.7 per cent support, extending its lead over the PPP at 32.9 per cent.

The survey, conducted with 1,504 adults from Wednesday to Friday, has a ±2.5 per cent margin of error at 95 per cent confidence. – BERNAMA
