REGISTERED private media practitioners in Sarawak will receive a one-off RM700 incentive, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced today (Dec 3).
The incentive applies to practitioners registered as of Dec 1, 2025, under any of the six recognised media associations in the state.
Abang Johari said the initiative reflects the state government’s appreciation of the media’s vital role.
“The contributions and sacrifices of media practitioners in delivering information and news professionally have made a significant impact on Sarawak’s socio-economic development,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN Sitting here today (Dec 3).
With this move, Sarawak becomes the second state after Johor to introduce a dedicated media incentive. Johor, in its 2026 Budget, allocated RM200,000 to acknowledge the media’s role in disseminating accurate information and strengthening government-public communication.
