KUCHING: Among the tragic casualties of today helicopter crash at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut, Perak was Able Seaman I JJM Joanna Felicia Rohna from Sarawak.
Joanna, 25, from Kampung Sumpas Tampek in Serian was one of the 10 crew members of the Royal Malaysian Navy who lost their lives in the incident.
The victim left behind her husband and two children.
The RMN Strategic Communications Branch, in a statement, said the victim was among the seven crew members on board the M503-3 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) that crashed with another helicopter while conducting a fly-past rehearsal for an upcoming parade commemorating the 90th anniversary of the RMN.
Besides Joanna, those on board included Squadron 503 commanding officer Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli, Lieutenant Commander Wan Razaudeen Kamal Wan Zainal Abidin, Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Amirulfaris bin Mohamad Marzukhi, Warrant Officers II TLR (AQM) Muhammad Faisol Tamadun and Noorfarahimi Mohd Saedy, and Petty officer Noor Rahiza Anuar.
Meanwhile, aboard the Fennec M502-6 were Squadron 502 commanding officer Commander Muhamad Amir Mohamad, Lieutenant Sivasutan Thanjappan and Warrant Officer II TMK Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Tarmizi.
The collision of the two helicopters yesterday morning resulted in the tragic loss of all ten crew members on board.
