KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Feb 4) sentenced a local man to one year in prison for possessing a stolen van.
Moha Zahren Eduad, 37, from Kampung Samariang, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of no less than six months and up to five years, along with a possible fine.
According to the charge, he committed the offence in front of a house at Lorong Samariang Batu 10 at around 12.50 pm on January 30.
Case facts revealed that on December 28, 2024, at around 9 am, a 48-year-old complainant noticed that his van, which was parked at a workshop parking lot, had been stolen.
A police report was lodged for investigation and further action.
On January 30, at around 12.50 pm, a police team arrested a man during an Op Lejang operation at a house in Kampung Semariang, suspecting his involvement in vehicle theft activities.
A van parked in front of the house was inspected, and its chassis number matched the one reported by the complainant.
Further investigation revealed that the accused admitted to possessing the stolen vehicle and had been keeping it.
The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
