KUCHING: A 50-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today (January 13) after pleading guilty to causing injury to his wife during a domestic dispute.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence on Palli Jite, who admitted to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, for intentionally causing hurt to his 50-year-old wife.
According to the charge, the offence occurred at their home in Bandar Baru Semariang at about 1.15am on January 8.
Based on the facts of the case, Palli, who lived with the complainant and their four children, was intoxicated at the time of the incident and had initiated an argument by questioning his wife’s responsibilities.
During the altercation, he became aggressive and swung a mobile phone, striking the back of the complainant’s head and causing an abrasion.
The victim subsequently lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on the same day.
In mitigation, Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, stating that the accused was frequently violent towards his wife whenever he consumed alcohol.
Chuah also highlighted that domestic violence remains a serious concern, citing Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) statistics showing 3,768 reported cases nationwide in 2025.
