KUCHING: Good news for those who love karaoke as the Sarawak government will allow entertainment centres to reopen with effect from Aug 15.
However, this strictly refers to only selected centres with closed-door karaoke rooms.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) had proposed the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the reopening of selected entertainment centres.
“Meanwhile, open air karaoke centres will not be allowed to operate. This directive will come into effect on Aug 15,” it said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 6).
Elaborating on the matter, MLGH principal assistant secretary Desmond Jerukan said the ministry had already finalised the SOP for closed-door karaoke rooms.
He said that the SOP, which is currently in the midst of finalisation, was meant strictly for closed-door karaoke rooms only.
When asked whether it was possible for ‘open karaoke’ operators to reopen together with the selected ‘closed-door karaoke’ operators on Aug 15, he responded in the negative.
