KUCHING: Only Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is capable of safeguarding Sarawak’s future without reliance on external parties, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said GPS, as a local-based coalition, prioritises the interests of Sarawakians across the board – from urban centres to the most remote rural areas.
According to him, GPS fully understands the challenges faced by the people, including rural road connectivity, water and electricity supply, education, and economic opportunities.
“Decisions made are closer to the realities of the people and are not influenced by other powers or external forces. Only GPS has the track record, leadership, vision and courage to bring Sarawak to greater heights.
“Other parties are of no use. Only GPS,” he said in his welcoming address at the GPS Convention 2026 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today (April 19).
Uggah added that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak is led by a highly capable and unmatched leader in Malaysia.
Citing the Sabah State Election, he claimed that Sabahans had even expressed a desire for Abang Johari to serve as their Chief Minister.
“That is our strength – a leader who is brave, intelligent, visionary and fair to all,” he said.
He stressed that GPS will continue to defend Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to ensure these rights are restored as soon as possible.
Uggah also said GPS has successfully upheld strong inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations, describing Sarawak as a model of racial and religious harmony in Malaysia.
He noted that GPS has a clear long-term plan through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), with well-defined goals.
“Most importantly, this approach is inclusive. No one is left behind, regardless of race or religion. Our leader is a leader for all,” he said.
He added that Sarawak’s future is not solely about physical development, but also about dignity and rights.
“We must safeguard our dignity and our rights. GPS is the bulwark defending Sarawak’s sovereignty while driving comprehensive development.
“With strong support from the people, Sarawak will not only progress but can become a model of success in Malaysia – self-reliant, competitive and united,” he said.
