MIRI: Police detained 13 motorcycles and issued 57 traffic summonses during the Op Samseng Jalanan to clamp down on illegal street racing across several roads here last night.
The operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Miri District Police Headquarters, began at 10 pm last night and ended at 3 am this morning (July 27).
Targeted areas of the operation were at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Marina Utama, Jalan Miri-Bypass, Jalan Tanjung Lobang, Jalan Tudan, Jalan Permyjaya, Jalan Taman Tunku and Jalan Canada Hill.
Miri District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said during the operation, 13 motorcycles were inspected and subsequently seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications and to be further inspected.
“Police also screened 13 individuals and issued 57 summonses for various traffic offences,” he said in a statement today.
He added that such operations would be carried out continuously to ensure that road users comply with traffic laws and regulations.
“The public is reminded to always ride responsibly and carefully, avoid illegal racing, refrain from modifying vehicles and not gather by the roadside in a way that causes congestion or disturbs public peace.
“Negligence on the road can endanger not only the rider but also other road users,” he said.
